Hip holster opinions
Guys,
I'm looking at the following holsters for open carry while hunting. Hip holsters.
for Glock 10mm: Fobus paddle holster
for Ruger Redhawk 5.5": Hunter 1100 snap off belt holster
for Ruger Bisley Blackhawk SS 5.5": either Hunter 1082 Single Loop holster or TripleK 114 Cheyenne Western holster.
I'd appreciate comments, suggestions, recommended substitutions. Also, I'd especially like any comments on either of the 2 holsters I'm considering for the Blackhawk.
Looking for secure retention with easy availability. It's for backup in camp while black bear rifle hunting in grizzly/mountain lion/ wolf country. I may eventually also want to use the 10mm for IDPA type events.
Thanks,
Steve

Boss KongoniTry some of the guys that make SASS rigs. Many of them make duty & hunting holsters too.
I have a great 60degree cross-draw holster for a 4 3/4 barrel Ruger Vaquero. I used to carry bowhunting. It sits nicly on your lap, out of the way but, right there. Perfect for those weekly poker games too.
I sold traded that Ruger. I might but another just to use that holster....any excuse to buy another gun.

.
You might look at the Freedom Arms site. I have there cross draw for my model 83. I think your blackhawk would fit in it.
Boss,
Thanks. I'll look at the FA cross-draw.

Pistol Packaging makes some nice holsters that would work for any of your handguns. Prices are very competetive too. I personally don't care to carry a heavy revolver on my hip; pulls my pants down and gets in the way too much. I bought a Dan Wesson 44 mag last weekend, and it will ride in an El Paso Saddlery 1942 shoulder holster.
Consider a Bladetech for the Glock 10mm. Tests have shown failure with the Fobus in the paddle holster design when stressed.
Viking,
Thanks, but it's too late!
I got the Fobus paddle holster in the mail. I like it fairly well, but I'd be interested in where you saw the tests.
Boss, I also got a cross draw holster from Hunter Holsters. I like it a lot.

Viking http://www.thegunzone.com/video/gungrab.mpe try cut and paste or just type in the web address.
Here you go. Good luck with the Fobus. I will admit that you have to be pretty stupid to let someone sneek up on you like this.

I like those Fobus hosters. They secure the gun and aren't that hard the draw for my G20
