I've been happy with my 7 1/2" Super Blackhawk .44 Magnum. After carrying it for over 30 years and a couple thousand shots, I liked it so much that I bought another one, in stainless.

Seconded - my vote goes to the Super Blackhawk as well. 20 years and more than a thousand rounds myself.

Sentimental favorite - Colt SAA 4 3/4" 45 Colt

Like it right now favorite - Colt SAA New Frontier 5 1/2" 45 Colt

Practical favorite - Ruger Blackhawk Bisley 5 1/2" 45 Colt

My Ruger Redhawk, rechambered for .454 Casull, with a spare cylinder for .45 ACP/Auto Rim. I'd also trade some of the velocity I can get with a 7.5" barrel for the better portability of a 6.5".

Had a 480 in SRH liked it alot sold it to a friend of mine.Now I'm thinking of a 454 in SRH or BFR.Played with a double action seriously plotting of a single action. Like to have opinions or suggestions of either. If wrong forum let me know..

Mr. pepper -- youcame to the right place!! If I were you I would find another .480 SRH over the Casull. Before the hate mail comes rolling in, I have both and I just like the fact that the .480 throws a larger diameter and heavier bullet. They penetrate like hell, and they don't beat you up nearly as badly.......JMHO

mr peper i'm with witworth go 480 i never got a chance to play with 454 but i.ve shot 480 and from what i know that would be my choice

this is so true to the 480
dont get me wrong i loved it the reason i got rid of it was lack of time to shoot and ammo availability. i am still looking at the 475/480 in the bfr since i shot the srh more single action than double now it being a 5 shot it would be a good one to go back to and have it reworked to handle the 475 too

And I have just the gunsmith to do the conversion! I have an SRH that was previously a .480 that is now a .475 Linebaugh. The BFR is a great piece!

Ruger Red Hawk in 45 colt.
Anything I want to shoot will go down with an appropriate load from this combination.

Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter in 45 Colt

Open sights for cowboy loads and "normal" deer loads out to 75 yards, scoped for long range loads, and red dot for "elephant" loads. The scope and red dot keep zero when taking on and off the gun, and the cowboy loads at 10 yards amazingly shoot to the same POI as the deer loads at 50 yards.

I have been watching this post for a long time so I figure it is time to add to it. If I were to chose one revolver that is good for anything without spending a fortune, it would be my BFR .475. Superior accuracy with any size boolit and recoil that can be handled all day.
There are a lot of good choices listed and I agree that all are good but for a do-all gun, the BFR can't be beat.
I rate the .475 Linebaugh as being one of the best calibers ever made.

I will have to stay with the old fashioned regular Redhawk 4" in 44 mag. It would be hard to pick between it and my 4 5/8 Bisely Vaquero in 44 mag though. I guess the double action Redhawk would be my pick. DW

No doubt about it! It would have to be my Dan Wesson 7445 in
.445 Supermag with 6 inch barrel (and the 10 inch scoped barrel

) Plenty of power and ability to shoot .44 S&W Spl, .44 Mag and .445 Supermag all in the same gun. I carry 300 grain hard cast bullets on my Alaska hunting trips for bear medicine. It will go through a 6" x 8" piece of oak in either direction so plenty of penetration for the big bears.
But like one buddy of mine says if you run into a grumpy grizzly no gun you have is going to seem like enough.

Just my 2 cents.
