MS HitmanI once shot a pumpkin that weighed about fifty pounds using a .375JDJ. It was blowed up after that.

WhitworthDid you pose with your trophy pumpkin? If it was blown up, on second thought I don't want to see the pictures and you shouldn't post them as members of the Psychos for the Ethical Treatment of Vegetables (PETV) may be lurking........

MS HitmanThere was nothing left of it. The spray field was a good 35 yards, maybe just a bit more.

SAFARIKIDWyoming Bison at 60 yds with Smith 500 Performance Center 6 1/2"...500gr Hornady XTP at 1400+fps..One shot in shoulder and he then died!Recovered bullet angled in to rear opposite hip at least 4 feet, expanded perfectly and weighed 499 grains!

(Shot a 2nd one with 700Nitro Express running away at 50 or so yds,hit in right rear hip with 1000gr Woodleigh Soft and yes folks,it came out his Chest and kept going!Blood streamed out 18" like a water hose, amazing!

x-caliberGreat job safarikid! I am surprised at the penetration and weight retention of the XTP!

Please post a pic of the .700 Nitro kill as well if its convenient for you. Thanks for posting!

I too am surprised. But, that's my point. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't..... Try to repeat that performance and see what happens........ I'll stick to my hardcast flat-nosed bullets........
Nice Bison, Tom!!

bfrshooterBut Marko, XTP's come in all forms. The light for caliber ones are the ones that fail in big game. They have magnum versions also.
I don't like the 240 gr in the .44 but would use the 300 gr. As the caliber goes up so does the toughness. But so does the cost.
I will stick to cast.

I know they come in all forms, but for my money, I want complete penetration and no expansion as you already have the diameter..... Yes, and XTP might exit, but maybe it won't........
