R FlowersRe: Thoughts on Nikon Monarch 2.5-8x Scope
While I am sure that the Nikon Monarch 2.5-8 scope will serve your purposes, I can tell you that the 2.5-8 Leupold EER scope is up to the task.
I shoot IHMSA pistol silhouette competition and we literaly abuse pistol scopes!! I have seen lots of pistol scopes abused by shooters and the Leupold's just seem to hold up.
I had a TC Contender in 7-30 Waters that I bought used. It had a 4X Burris EER scope on it. During a competition, the target knob on that scope sheered off and hit me in the face. Now, Burris fixed it for free, but that is not the point.
The only Leupold EER scope I have seen fail was used on an XP-100 chambered in 308 Winchester!!! After literaly thousands of rounds of maximum loads, the back end of the scope just plain old fashioned fell off!! This scope had endured a hell of a lot of abuse!!
I imagine that the Nikon would serve you well, BUT I think the Leupold would hold up better. The eye relief of the Leupold is one of the reasons they are so popular with IHMSA pistol shooters. Burris makes some damned good pistol scopes but the eye relief is not very good. And I have NEVER seen a Nikon scope on the firing line in IHMSA competition, NEVER.

hunter20ga9.3x62...why specifically would you go with the Burris 1.5-4x scope?
Quality/durability? Size? Range of magnification? Optics?
thanks...

<9.3x62>The Burris 1.5-4x is a proven scope - it has been around for a while and has a good record of standing up to heavy recoil. Plus, it has a perfect power range for a 454, in my opinion. Also, the 2-7x and 2.5-8x have a lot of difference in eye relief (shorter at higher power) and less field of view. I have decided to keep shots at game at the 125 yds as the absolute farthest, and more like 75 yds if possible. A 1.5-4x is plenty for these types of distances. If longer range is going to be the norm, get an xp-100 or a TC with a 2.5-8x scope. JMO...
Good luck.
