<9.3x62>Alliant Steel or 410?
Anyone tried these powders in 41, 44, and 45 colt (Ruger pressures)? They look promising, and maybe clean!

johnchI used some 410 in a 44 mag.
I found I needed 10 - 12% less than 2400 to get the the same velosity .

I will not list what charges I used because I have no idea of the pressures
Steel powder is Bulky , I use it for my Nontoxic reloads
I have never tryed it .

<9.3x62>Hmmmm. curious. Alliant claims that 410 is slower than 2400:
(faster)
Blue Dot
Steel
2400
410

(slower)

KLN357Great topic, have wondered about the same questions. I have used Blue Dot in a lot of .41 magnum loads, but now I am finding AA#9 almost perfect for the burn rate/cartridge size. Loads are very accurate. Ramshot Enforcer is very close to AA#9 and should also be a great .41 Mag. powder. Accurate's 4100 looks very promising for the .44 and they have a good amount of data for it in 30,000 CUP level .45 LC.

<9.3x62>Well, I answered my own question. Bought a pound of STEEL and went to work. After I triagulated some starting loads based on burn rate and shotgun charges, I loaded some up for my 41s with the 210 Hornady. Accuracy was good and powder was quite clean - I think I'll be working some more with it. As someone already mentioned, it is a very bulky powder, which I actually prefer because it makes accidental over or double charges easy to spot. Seems to meter well too, despite being about the largest flake powder I have ever seen.
