Hi has anyone ever used the garret 310 gr. Hammerhead in the 44 mag. if so how and what was the results what did you think ?? I was thinking of trying them in my Raging Bull 444 44 mag. 6 1/2" barrel.Maybe uses them for this comeing elk & bear hunt.

I have used them in my 4" S&W 44 Mag. I have shot some pigs in the head, and an Alaskan Caribou in the chest, all as "finisher shots". All were complete penetrations. The 310 gr Hammerheads shoot better in my 44 than the 285 SWC Garrets do. He makes a good product, I have spoke with him on the phone a few times and he seems to be a very nice fellow.

Exercise caution, some of the .44 Mag Garret loads are +P and intended only for Ruger Super Redhawks.

I read an article on these things awhile ago, it was a very positive review and the penetration is phenomenal.

Opps, sorry. The 330gr rounds are the Redhawk only rounds, not the 310's. My bad..

I've used them and they do penetrate. I get 1375 fps out of a 7.5" Ruger SBH Hunter. I shot a zebra from 89 yards and it dumped him - complete penetration. I would definately recommend shooting for the shoulder in the heart area and hopefully breaking one or both shoulders. I would expect complete penetration on broadside or quartering shots but the exit hole will still be 44 cal. My only concern in using them would be having enough blood trail to follow them up if they went very far in heavy cover.

I also shot a wildebeest with the Federal 300 gr cast core and it also penetrated completely. The animal went about 150 yards and had expired when we got to it. He was shot through the top of the heart and the bullet exited in the middle of the offside shoulder. There was a wound channel slightly larger than a golf ball in the chest cavity. The Federals shoot slightly better in my Ruger but they are 100 fps slower than the Garrett's - they are 22-23 BHN vs. 25 BHN for the Garrett.

I just wish they'd make a .475 Linebaugh or .454 Casull load. But they've said they won't make any other caliber's than what the already do

Oh yeah! BBA ROCKS!! Love their ammo. Ever seen what a .454 Casull does to a tree?

Plan on getting a few boxes when I get my new .475 Linebaugh here pretty soon. I just wish they had 20 round boxes too. Those 50 round boxes are expensive at over $100 a pop.
