Montana MaddnessMy Town
Ok so it's not handgun hunting, but I have more what I would call Cyber friends here than any other board on AR. I just thought it would be nice to start a thread about the towns and areas we hunt.
Here is the site for Fort Benton MT. where I have lived for 16 years now. It's a great little town in north central MT.
Hunting all around. Highwood mountains are 15 miles away. Bearpaws are 60, and the Little belts around 100. Good fishing every where. With the Missouri running right through towm.

RMillerWhat do you do for work?
I am considering moving to Montana and going to be down there to look around the 11th through the 17th.
Likely scenerio would be to buy a cheap place and a couple of rentals but I would still have to work.

Mr Goodwrench at your service

Only problem with Ft. Benton is lack of wages. Other than that it's great. Good side is land is cheeper than other places. You sould PM me before you head this way. Maybe get together for a cup of coffee or something. Will help you out anyway I can.

RMillerThanks for the offer. I will have to see what comes up.
My plan is to fly in to Helena and then drive to Cut bank and work my way from Cut Bank to Shelby to Conrad down to Butte and back to Helena in 7 days.

Went to the site and when I looked at the recreation page it only listed golf . . . recreation . . . GOLF
In Montana ? ? ?
Missouri River right there in town and they only list golf
You need to talk to the Chamber of Commerce and explain the word "recreation".
Just an opinion . . .

Juggernaut76Fenton, MI aka suberbia. A small town all grown up, complete with Target, Walmart, every big fast food chain, and a Home Depot. It's saving grace is that there's more all-sports lakes than I can list (quality fishing) and it's 20 minutes from corn and hay fields as far as the eye can see (quality hunting). As far as employment goes, the Big Three are hiring, wages are not what they were when I hired in (2000) but at the end of the day, you should have two nickels to rub together.

Yes I agree. There is so much more to do here than Golf. I'm not sure why they only list golf. All three hotels are booked solid during hunting season. You would think they would see that as a major draw to our area.
Go figger!

Montana MaddnessYes most Montana people are good folks. Up in that area of the state and many others it is getting to not be that way so much anymore. Lots of Cal transplants. A good share of them are good folks to. My only problem with them is they try to turn MT. into the places they left. When you drive down the streets of a MT. ID. town and see more starbucks and juice bars and bistros than gun shops and farm and ranch supplies there is something wrong. The whole economy of the state is changing to travel and touristy crap. And these bueisnesses don't pay good wages. Don't even get me started on the gov. paying people not to farm. (CRP) and now they are bored so they are taking jobs in town that others need. All the while getting money from unkle sam not to farm.
Don't get me wrong I love MT, but it's getting harder to stay. I know a ASE master tech with 22 years exp. would be making a hell of a lot more money somewhere else. And that sucks!

FN in MontanaWAGES are one of the problems for anyone moving out here. Montana is consistently in the BOTTOM 3 or 4 listed States for average per capita income.
And quite a few employers seem to treat their employees poorly as there is ALWAYS someone wanting to take that employees spot.
I've often mentioned that if the West didn't have the scenery and the hunting/fishing opportuniites it would be DESERTED. LOL.
