BEST PRIMERS FOR .454 CASULL LOADS
Hi All,

I own 2 .454 Casull revolver one FA and one Taurus. I use powder like H110/W296, for all my loads in .454 Casull.

I have seen lots of loads on the net with very different primers : SP Mag, SR, SR Mag this for same powder and same bullet weight.

Which one seems to be the best with this reloading powder, for very good ignition, pressure,...

Thanks for input.

It should be a magnum primer for reliable ignition, especially with a slow burning powder like H110. I personally like CCI 450 small magnum rifle primer with my 454. Have fun. Cheers! Ming

Federal 205M is all I've ever used in my FA's. Never had a misfire yet with H110.

I'm with Ming on this one. NEVER EVER use small pistol primers in the .454. They just don't hold up on the high pressure loads. I've always used the CCI 450 Mag primers. I have, however, bought some of the Remington 7 1/2 primers to play with.

Up to now, I have always used Winchester SP mag for all my loads in .454 Casull for my Taurus and my FA. This with any pressure signs that you can seen on the primer. The reason I can't find any CCI in my area, now it is changing.

I have purchased CCI 450 and I'll only use these primers.

When I bought my FA 454 back in early 90's I was told to use Rem. 7 1/2 primers. It always worked for me and I never changed. My all around load was 31.5 grains of H-110 with a 300 grain Hornady XTP

Hmmmmm......this is interesting. I've never used anything but small rifle primers in mine. No problems. The brand never seemed to matter. Magnum primers huh? Never tried it. Hmmmmmmm...............

I use CCI small rifle magnums with H110.
