Impressive. I briefly played with a .500. Felt like I was shooting a .50-70 revolver, but the Smith muzzle brake design was very efficient. That said, I did not shoot any 700-grain bullets!

I tested 700 grain bullets in the .500 Smith years ago and they performed miserably. They wouldn’t track straight. Too much of a good thing in my humble opinion. While I’ve used hardcast bullets for years on big game, if uncompromising penetration is the goal, you are hard pressed to beat the Punch bullet - they won’t distort on heavy bone like a cast bullet will. I’ve used CEB solids as well and they performed admirably. Too bad ballistic gel isn’t in season!

700 grain bullets in a revolver or any handgun for that matter is ridiculous. The S&W is .500” in diameter and the 500 Nitro is .510 and 570 grain bullets are what the Nitro built its great reputation on.
