SBH .44 MAG SCOPE MOUNT
I am searching high ang low for a good mount to put a 30mm red dot scope on my SBH.A no gunsmithing mount would be desirable but a drill and tap mount is not out of the question.
any suggestions from anyone with some experiance on the matter would be great.
p.s. i need something that is totaly rock solid.

thanks, patternman

I have a SSK T'SOB on my Mag-Na-Port Stalker. You may want to look at E. Artuhur Brown's website and check out their mount. I saw one on a friend's silhouette revolver and it was impressive. I think the website is www.eabco.com.

I'm in the same boat as you are. Take a look at www.jackweigand.com Drill and tap but I've heard very good reviews on these mounts and rings. I think its what I'm going to try. Let us know what you decide and how it works. Good luck.

If you're willing to drill & tap, it might be less expensive to trade your SBH toward the Hunter model. The integral mounting system is rock solid and 30mm rings are available.

i just might drill and tap as you mentioned.a friend of mine bought a SBH with a B-SQUARE that looked like it was made to fit a 7.5 inch sbh with no gunsmithing involved.it was full barrel length and had 3 set screws that clamped it onto the front sight and one in the back that went in the rear sight hole. But i cannot find this model anywhere, i think they discontinued it.

If this is an older model, Weaver makes a mount that replaces the rear sight & clamps to the receiver. If it's newer model w/ the scope ring cuts, Burris makes a Weaver style base that clamps in the ring cuts.

PatternMan I had one of those scope mounts for my 5.5" barrel Ruger Redhawk cut off to fit my gun at a machine shop. I had it mounted on the front sight and one screw in the rear sight.I put a leopole scope on it. Took it to the range with full house loads Fired 50 rounds. Got home cleaning the gun found that the rear screw broke off. So I took the scope and mount off put the gun back with open sights. Too much power for this type of scope mount.

Patternman, I bought the Weigand base and drilled and tapped it myself. Great base. I got it from Brownell's. Nothing has moved. Those clamp on bases flex and can cut deep marks on the sides of the barrel. I had one long ago and put brass shim stock between the clamp and barrel. Recoil cut the shims.

If you buy the Hunter and want to mount a red dot, there are only a few that fit. The rings are too close together. Millet is one but you will blow the prizm out from recoil, ditto the Tasco's. Scopes work OK.

Good to know about the recoil tearing them up. I have a little Millet on a Ruger MK I and it works great.

I was considering putting it on another, much bigger gun, but now I won't.
