500 S&W - How easy is to extract fired cases from cylinder
Hi folks,
I have 7.5" PC 500 S&W for few weeks. Only factory ammo available here is Magtech 400gr, at least for now. I am not sure how old that factory ammo is or how it has been stored, but when fired, cases doesn't drop out of cylinder easy and it needs some force to extract them. Cases have some "smoke marks" on the outside.
I searched at google and youtube to find any videos of extracting fired cases from cylinder to compare with me, but didn't find anything.
I know that 500 is relatively high pressure round and cases will not drop from cylinder like with .38 Special, but what is OK and what is not?
I heard also that CBC/Magtech brass can be thicker and that it is the reason of not easy extraction.

Jiri, While I'm certainly no expert on the 500, as I use a 460, I don't think that there is a problem. I also have some "smoked" cases after firing with my 460,as well! A gentle to somewhat forcefull extraction wouldn't concern me. If it requires more force than you can apply with the naked hand, I'd be a little concerned! Not very scientific, but that's been my experience. Good Luck memtb

buckeyeshooterPretty much, they should fall out like a .38. If you have to give the rod more than a firm tap, you probably have something going on. Maybe a dirty cylinder, poorly assembled handloads, ect. Magtechs are known for being loaded 'hot'.
Result:
Any load with Magtech (CBC) brass needs a little bit more force than I feel it is fine.
Any load with Starline brass is really easy to extract so I will not use CBC anymore.

GrumulkinI wouldn't be concerned. Keep the cylinders very clean for easier extraction. At the pressure it's designed for sticky extraction isn't surprising

Brian CanadaGrumulkin is right. No worries. 500 S&W has no/little taper. it will drag a bit on extraction. Don't be tempted to lube the cylinder. Clean dry chambers are best.

Thank you guys
I am not much concerned. But if one brand is easy to extract and other (with the same load and velocity) is not, I will use easy one.
BTW it give me 1600 fps+ with 406gr HC coated bullet out of 7.5" barrel.
