454 ruger cylinder pin
I had my ruger 454 sbh out yesterday. After cleaning I noticed the cylinder pin was rebounding or had back and forth play.

I have about 150 rounds through it never noticed this before. I tightened the locking screw as tight as I dared. There is still play with the pin springing back out until the screw stops it.

Like I said if it was doing this before, I never noticed. I think it was tight with no movement, but am not sure.

Do I have a problem? Or, am I worrying about nothing. I will call Ruger on Monday.

I just checked my unfired SBH 480, it also has some in/out play. Guessing less than 1/32" but did not put a feeler gauge in it. I don't think it is an issue or will cause one. But, I am not a gunsmith.

I did check a SBH 44, which has no set screw and it appears to have zero play.

I also check two Freedom Arms revolvers. Like the SBH 480, these set screws do not engage threads in the barrel.
The older Premium grade 454's set screw has a very slight amount of play.
The Field grade 475 set screw, appears to have about the same amount movement as the Ruger 480, maybe very slightly less.

I don't think it is an issue.

Edited, after looking at Freedom Arms Premium grade closer.

Thanks for reporting back on that. Save me some headache if I have that situation.

Phil Shoemaker : "I went to a .30-06 on a fine old Mauser action. That worked successfully for a few years until a wounded, vindictive brown bear taught me that precise bullet placement is not always possible in thick alders, at spitting distances and when time is measured in split seconds. Lucky to come out of that lesson alive, I decided to look for a more suitable rifle."
