Scope for SRH 454
I was planning on buying a leupold 2x20 on my ruger when a friend recommended i buy the weaver classic hand gun scope the 2x28. I checked this scope out at the midway usa website and in reading the reviewhttps://forums.accuratereloading.com/groupee_common/ver1.3.7.9830/platform_images/blank.gifs (21) many say they are using them on there 454's 460's and 500 magnums with no problems. Are these weaver people putting in these reviews or is the weaver handgun scope the real deal?

I have the Weaver 2x on my 454. No problems, works great. I also have a Weaver 4x on my SRH 44 mag. and field of view is an issue.

I've had great luck with my Leupolds on heavy recoiling revolvers and Encores -- I have about two dozen and have never had one break.

My preference is for the 2.5x8 variable because you get the bigger 32mm bell which helps me a lot with light collection at twilight -- but that might not be justified for everybody given the significant additional cost - but my eyes aren't great in dim light and for me it's a godsend.

When you get bored with life, start hunting dangerous game with a handgun.

I would suggest opening a photobucket account and it's really easy. Just follow directions. Then you simply copy and paste the pictures (url) into your reply.

When mounting scopes/reflex sights on viciously recoiling SRHs - 454 and heavy 480 loads - sight durability is probably less important than mount reliability. Many SRH users find SRH integral mounts to be inadequate. To the best of my knowledge, no user has found Wiegand's 454 mount inadequate. I have two Wiegand 454s, one of which is still in original packaging. The other is on my long-barreled 480.

Hope this helps.

I just put a Burris 2x20 on my SRH .454 Casull- WOW what a difference from iron sights!!

I don't know how I made it so long without trying that. I'm really pleased with it.

I disagree whole heartedly. My SRH in .475 Linebaugh recoils quite a bit more than most stock SRHs (virtually thousands of full-tilt loads: 420s at 1,350 fps) and the Ruger sights have proven to be more than adequate. I have had mine on for about three years and they never even required a retightening. Pluse, twice it has fallen out of a tree stand and even zero hasn't been affected. I think the Ruger rings are the best option. But that's just me.
