Are rifle calibers in short barreled pistols, like Savage Stryker or TC Encore/Contender, always extremely loud?

I know if they have a muzzle break they would be, as rifles are also. But if you have one without muzzle break in a .243 or 7mm-08 how loud is it? So loud you should never shoot it without hearing protection even once?

Considering one of these, but if they are as loud as muzzle breaked rifles, I don't want one at all.

Figured this forum is full of people who would know the real answer.
