What is your favorite handgun?

daniel77What is your favorite handgun?
For me, it has to be my single six. I have probably shot that pistol more than any other gun I've ever owned. Maybe I should say besides my old Benjamin pellet rifle. That little Ruger has taken a myriad of small game and target animals (like birds), and plinked until I was plunked. I kind of have to mess with all of my guns to make them my own, and this one has my first attempt at trigger work as my mark on it. She's sweet and fun, just like I wish my wife were. How about ya'll?

Bobby Tomek
My favorite would have to be an 8" Dan Wesson .22 LR that I bought many years ago. It accompanied me along more miles of trapline than I care to venture an estimate on, made for quite a small game gun when scoped and probably has resulted in the demise of more animals than all of the other guns I own combined.
The bluing is worn off and the stock is battered, but it still shoots teenie, tiny groups and is utterly reliable. I can't see myself ever getting rid of it.
In second place would be virtually any caliber on a T/C Contender frame. A year or two back, the TC would have been my number one choice. But extreme pain in the hands has forced me to abandon them for now. But I sure do have many fond memories with the TC pistols.
In third place for me would be a Ruger Super Redhawk in .44 Magnum in either the 7.5 or 9.5" versions. With a 320 grain Cast Performance bullet, they are up to taking about anything I ever would have hunted, though these, too, have had to be put on the backburner due to medical issues.

smithrjdI guess that I have two, these have stayed around through the years. Many others have come and gone. A 60's Hamden High Standard Citation, the most accurate pistol I have ever owned. Second is an old Argentine 1911, At least the frame and slide, the rest I customized and replaced. Shot expert in the Military with this pistol for many years as well as many trophies. Can still put a clip into 2" at 25 yards offhand. Starting to like a S&W 4" 629 however.

youngoutdoorsThats a tough decision! Probably Smith & Wesson 57, 41. Then any Contender. Louis

nordrsetaThis year my favorite hunting handgun is my Bisley Blackhawk 45 Colt. Mine is box stock except for a trigger job and a Belt Mountain base pin so Ruger's photo will suffice

hnts4funAlmost 30 years ago I had my 7 1/2 inch Ruger Super Blackhawk scoped. I stumbled upon some factory ammo by Federal, 180 grain silouette. A truncated cone design that are simply scary accurate out to 100 yards. I've taken a lot of game with it but this elk has to be one of my favorites.

hnts4funThanks,
My hunting roots are firmly established in smallbore firearms and archery gear. With that mindset, handguns are simply the BEST in terms of portability and firepower.
Great thread with some really nice handguns and game photos. Keep em coming!
Matt
PS griz78 what the Python lacks in horsepower, it more than makes up for with pure class!

ShofI don't have anything exotic like a lot of you guys.
But I absolutely love my Ruger Super Blackhawk. I put Pachmyer grips on it and had the trigger worked on for a nice two pound pull.
It shoots Garrett 310 grain Hammerheads really nice...

Yup. But the only problem is that it's not something to take hunting so you get water or dirt in it. But it does give me a reason to get a S&W 686. shhh... don't tell the wife.

CLK320My favorite overall handgun has to be my 4" smith 629 performance center v-comp, my most "used" (rounds and field time) handgun has to be my bone stock Glock 20, 10mm, favrite hunting handgun is my Bisley Hunter in 44 mag, however i hope my performance center 460 will take over this position with more field time.

There's a guy in Eunice, LA that owns a pawn shop. He claims to have over 30 different Colt 1911s in various models. And he won't sell even one. I've asked. He said he sold one and he'll never do it again. For those of us who are real fans of the Colt 1911, we will always feel regret over selling one, and will cuss the world for all eternity if one should ever get stolen.
I was lucky. A guy (I thought was my friend) stole my Colt Gold Cup National Match.
He asked a friend of his to hold it for him, but when the guy holding it found out who it belonged to, he gave it back to me. That was a week after it was stolen. You can imagine how sick I felt.

Doctor DI really like my pair of Old Model Blackhawks. I picked up one in .44 magnum about 1972 and the .41 about 10 years ago. The serial numbers are only 8 digits apart. They both have had the transfer bar safety conversion (I still have the original parts), wear Pachmayr Presentation grips and have 2 lb trigger jobs. I shoot 250 grain Cast Performance in the .41 and 300 grainers in the .44.
I've killed several deer with the .44 over the years. I've been really itching to use the .41 on hogs.
My dad told me once that if you're gonna kill a rattler with a chainsaw, use the top of the bar.

bfrshooterToo hard to answer. I don't think I can name one but my go to revolver is the BFR .475---or is it the SBH--or Vaquero, maybe the 45-70 BFR---Dang it guys, why do you start this stuff?

No I didn't. But it's only because I already had this one on the wall.
My wife is very tolerant of my various outdoor addictions, but she said one hog on the wall was enough!
One of these days I'll shoot a real monster and put our relationship to the test!
