Ruger Redhawk trigger.
I have a Redhawk 44 Mag with a 4 inch barrel. The trigger is very smooth but weighs in at about 8.5 pounds. Two questions, is it much of a job to lighten them up, and is there a particular poundage to stay within. Thanks.

That is a tough one! I haven't had one apart in many, many years. That was only to clean it but if I remember the mainspring also works as the trigger return spring. One thing you sure don't want to do is to weaken the mainspring trying to make the trigger lighter.
I know I had something on making the trigger better and will keep searching. I know it was a balancing act for sure.

I have an article somewhere that shows how to smooth up an lighten a Redhawk trigger. The buddy how gave me the article says he used it to tune up his Redhawk. If I remember correctly, all it was was a lot of polishing to the internal parts.

Very tricky job. I've played with them quite a bit and won't try it anymore.

Don't go beyond just polishing anything or be prepared to send it back for a new hammer or trigger assymbly. I have one that I need to send back as we speak and it's the only thing I've ever messed up in 35 years of tinkering with guns.
