.41 mag underwood loads
I have tried the 210 grain JHP and XTP rounds by Underwood. Accurate out of my 8-3/8 657. My question is I shot about 40 rounds of Underwood and 40 rounds of Remington htp. The Htp's felt much more powerful from the hand chronograph. I have not had a chance to run the loads thru a bona fide chrono. Does anyone have any personal experience with Underwoods in this load. They advertise 1560 fps and Remington says 1300. I have a hog hunt in two weeks. Need input.

My handloaded 210 grain Nosler JHP runs 1335 ft/sec from my Ruger Blackhawk and I have shot a deer at 100 yds., and would shoot further if needed. Just shoot the most accurate load and forget about velocity. I would consider iron sights on a hunting wheel gun more of a challenge than a little less bullet speed.

I have never hunted hogs with a pistol. I own a 41 Mag. I have hunted black bears with it. I have hunted black bears in NW WI.

Those guys over there have little use for a JHP bullet. I had to learn it myself. The JHP does not penetrate.

Hogs are reported to have tougher make up than a bear.

Do yourself a favor and get some flat metplate hard cast bullet loads. I am currently using some from Montana Bulletworks. (Not sure if he is well and still in business or not.) I load my own and bought a few hundred some time ago.

The Underwood ammo is excellent in my experience. I also would recommend the flat point hard cast, the 230 grain would be my choice.

The hand chronograph can be very disapointing

case example win factory 158 357 1100fps felt sounded like a powerful round.

Hand load lot less flash and muzzle blast felt less powerful 1220fps.

They're called heartbreakers for good reason.

Hunt is over and done. After recommendations, I went with the the 265 grain hard cast. Very pleased with performance. Two complete pass throughs.

I have not yet undertaken the photo bucket challenge.

As for meat, Ole miss guy, if your in Scottsboro around 7 a.m., come on for wild pig sausage biscuit. We cook at our office most mornings. We also had one pig's pork chops on grill last week. It was fit to eat!!!

I am happy that your hunt was successful. I am also happy that you were willing and able to take advice.

I think this is my year for a bear tag. Last bear I shot, the guy cleaning it whined I had shot a .41" hole in the heart. I felt bad that anyone willing to gut a bear I shot, would not get the organs he wanted. Sucks to be him, I guess.

Just updated my avatar with a pic of the fallen swine. When I get more time, I will get a photo bucket account.

You can eat right up to the hole.
