Bill/OregonSOLD Four rippers by Gordon Sinclair
These four classic adventure/reportage non-fiction romps of the early-mid-1930s by oft-fired and rehired Toronto Star reporter Gordon Sinclair caused a stir.
"Cannibal Quest," signed by the author, was on the Top 10 best-seller lists in both Canada and the US. Sinclair was quite a character, and his lively first-peson reporting 90 years ago would not be considered PC today. But reading these took me back to being a credulous kid in the 1950s and 60s watching slide lectures in grade school by explorers who had actually traveled to the Amazon -- or the Nile, watching Frank Buck black and whites, that sort of thing. I hadn't heard of Sinclair until someone mentioned that in "Khyber Caravan" (this one is an ex-library book) he described the parapets and trenches around the homes of the fierce peoples of the Khyber Pass, in which, when not fending off invaders, their pastime was trying to shoot their neighbors.
In "Loose Among Devils," he visited and spoke with the butterfly collector on Devil's Island that very probably inspired "Papillon."
These are wonderfully readable originals, but nowhere near in collector condition. Asking $50 plus $8 shipped media mail. You can chase these down here and there. This saves you the chase!
