Hello Cal,

I'm sailing in uncharted waters ... but based on my design engineering background, I have a concept that I think will work ... wish me luck!

I'll post results in a day or so ....

Hello,

I just finished my 19th Paradox Shell Crimping Tool. This one is for an 8 gauge.

This was a lot more difficult than I expected because I had to design a crimping method from scratch. No one made a crimp star for 8 gauge.

I tried 3 different designs until I found one that worked.

The wide part at the top is the crimping head. It holds the special crimping wires that I designed. The tool is not as sleek looking as my other tools, but it works just the same.

The 4th picture shows 2 shells. The first shell is the one that I used for testing different crimping methods, and the second shells shows the final crimp from the finished tool.

The last picture shows cases, before and after.

The fellow wanting this tool sent me a couple of brass 8 gauge shell to experiment with. The brass is head stamped "8 GAUGE" / "BR&C" and uses a shotgun primer. Overall case length is 3-1/4". Case mouth thickness measured .013" - .015" .... and the brass is quite soft.

It took twice as long to make this tool, so its a little more expensive than the ones I make for the smaller standard gauges. $225 delivered

As always, your comments are welcome.

Hello Cal,
Thanks for the reply.

The fellow wanting the 8-bore sent 2 brass cases for developement. It worked just fine. There is more time and materials involved because I have to use larger brass tubes and have to make 6 special crimping wires in a cage. This is because there are no "crimp stars" available for 8 gauge.

I would need 2 of your 8 gauge brass shells for developement because an exact fit is required. Cost for the 8 gauge tool is $225 delivered.

I'd also be happy to try a 4 gauge. I would need 2 brass shells for developement and testing as well. I'm confident I can make it work, but if not, I'll return the shells with no obligation. I think I can use the same tube as I use for the 8 gauge, so I would expect the price to be the same but will have to see what is required.

thanks

Buck

Buck, thanks for the reply. I will then send you a check for $450 and two each of my cases, correct? Is so, I will be going to town in a week and post all to you. Can you PM me your post address, please.
Cal
PS. I will also check the tool you sent me for 12-bore to see if it will accomodate 10 bore. If not, I will order at 10 also as I want a set of four, all matching in 12-10-8-4 bore. I will also return the 12 to you and if you would add the nice stamp to it, please. Again I would like a set of 4 all matching.
Cheers,
Cal

Hello Cal,

Thanks for the reply.

Sounds like a plan, PM sent.

*** UPDATE ***

I just finished the 21st Paradox Crimping Tool - I never though I'd be making so many, so I started giving them a serial number.

*** ANOTHER UPDATE ***

Thanks to a referral from Cal, I just finished the 22nd Paradox Crimping Tool - and also added a serial number.

Thank you Cal.

HOWEVER ...

.
.

BAD NEWS .....

When stamping the number "2" in marking this tool's number "12" on the curved surface .... An off-center blow of the hammer caused the antique number stamp to fly across the room ..... and I now can't find it.

Its only 1/4" square by 2" long and it shot across the room like a bullet. I only know the general direction it went. So far I've spent over 4 hours looking for it, but in my cluttered reloading room (see pics) its likely to remain lost for a very long time, or forever.

This number stamp set is over 150 years old, and will be hard getting over this loss.

.
.

.
.
.

** GOOD NEWS ** ... I SEARCHED FOR ANOTHER 4 HOURS TODAY ...... " AT 4:00 PM - I FOUND IT " ... I HAD TO MOVE EVERYTHING FROM HALF OF MY RELOADING ROOM .. AND THERE IT WAS ... BACK IN THE CORNER UNDER THE USA MAP
.
.

So it looks like I'm back in business ..... I'm going to tie a string around the stamps, the next time I use them ...

.

Hello All,

Well, I just finished my 25th tool. It was a "4 gauge" for Cal Pappas, to go with his "8 gauge" and "10 gauge" and "12 gauge" tools.

He now has a complete set of 4 tools.

Making tools for the 8 gauge and 4 gauge was a real challenge. I had to design and fabricate a special cell containing a set of 6 crimping wires to form the crimp.

Pictured below are tools for Cal's 8ga ..... and 4ga ..... and a picture of the 4 tool set.

as always your comments are welcome.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
.
I've had a couple people ask price for the larger tools ...
price is $150 delivered for 28ga, and 20ga, and 16ga, and 12ga, and 10ga paradox crimping tools.
price is $225 delivered for 410ga paradox crimping tool.
price is $325 delivered for 8ga, and 6ga, and 4ga paradox crimping tools.
NOTE: for 8ga, and 6ga, and 4ga, I need 2 cases each for proper fitting of the tools
I only have a few components left so if you are interested in a crimping tool - please PM me.
I just finished the 30th Paradox Crimping Tool ... its for another big 8 gauge.
and take a look at the one for a 410 gauge ....
I couldn't fit a 6-point crimp in the small 410 case ... so I did a 3-point crimp ... works just the same... the tool was made to crimp both a 460s&w case as well as a 410ga brass case with the use of a special spacer ring.
Crimping tool No. 28 was for a 16ga and the man wanted it serial numbered to his gun.
I also made a paradox roll crimper for 12ga.
if anyone needs something .. just ask ... I might surprize myself that I can make it.
NUMBER 28 WAS FOR A 16 GAUGE
.
NUMBER 29 WAS FOR A 410 GAUGE
.
THIS 410 TOOL WAS MADE TO CRIMP THE MOUTH OF A 460s&w CASE
AND A BRASS 410 CASE WITH THE USE OF A SPECIAL SPACER RING
.
NUMBER 1 ROLL CRIMPER WAS FOR A 12 GAUGE
.
AND NOW ... TOOL NUMBER 30 FOR ANOTHER 8 GAUGE
Hello All,
I just finished Paradox Crimping Tool number 40 and 41.
Tool number 40 was for a AR member's Holland & Holland 12 gauge Paradox Gun. Tool number 41 made for the same man was a custom "Combo" tool. It works for both a 16 bore double rifle with 2-1/4" chambers, and for a 16 bore Howdah pistol with 1-3/4" chambers. An interchangeable sleeve allows loading both case lengths.
If you are interested in obtaining one of my tools, PM me. I only ave a few components left.
Also see the results for a 16 gauge tool I made for myself for my Austrian Poriska 450ex/16ga Cape Gun.
Hello All,
3/6/22
Well the New Year has started off grand. I just finished Crimping Tool No. 48 for a 4" long 8 gauge. That is one long cartridge. And finished tool number 49 - a 20 gauge, and number 50 - another 12 gauge - and number 51 for a 10 gauge - and now number 52 for another 20 gauge. NEVER, NEVER THOUGHT I'D BE MAKING 52 OF THESE TOOLS.
Anyone interested in a Crimping Tool, please email me. VERY FEW COMPONENTS LEFT
Hello All,
I was contacted by a former customer that bought 2 of my crimping tools. He asked if I could make him a Custom 12ga Paradox "Roll-Crimper" for paper cases. I had made one before for plastic cases, but never for paper ones. I said I'd give it a try. Its different from conventional roll crimpers because it has to accommodate bullet or ball or slug.
Well, here it is. Number "2" Paradox Roll Crimper. It has an adjustable center stem to position the bullet down into the case while rolling the crimp. Its adjustable for different bullet nose shapes. I'll be making more of these upon request.
I also just finished paradox tool number 53. Another tool for 12 gauge. I evolved into making this style after tool number 10, and have stayed with it ever since. There are slight variation from one to the other because each tool is custom made. I only have enough components left for 2 more tools, so if anyone is interested in having me build them a tool, please reply asap.
HERE'S THE LATEST UPDATE .....
Many buyers of my crimping tools use them for loading cartridges for "bore rifles" in various gauges, not only for paradox guns. Here's an example.
I also just finished a very special Paradox Crimping Tool #56 for a 40mm 20ga Bore Double Rifle. The shell is only 1-1/2" long.
and another tool for 10 gauge .. number 57
