I have built up one tack driving .223 and have been using the Barts 52gr bullet with great accuracy. I noticed that Nosler offers a 60gr Partition in .22 and thought that would be a great hog/whitetail headshot bullet. I want something that will stay together and wondering if anyone has experience both hunting and accuaracy w-se with this bullet. I have killed two hogs so far with headshots but the way the varmint bullets come apart have me worried. Please no sermons on 223's for hunting...this is head shot only. Thank you

I've never been able to get them to shoot in my 22-250...Always seem to fly about every 4th shot.

If I could get them to shoot, though, I would have no problems turning them loose on Texas whitetail using head/neck shots.

I tried them on hogs at closer ranges when they first came out but couldn't get good enough groups in my Swift to trust them hunting deer. Some other people I know have had trouble finding loads, too but others may have had good luck; mine is a small sampling. Got better groups with the Trophy Bonded and I think TBs penetrate better than Partitions in 22 caliber. I haven't bought them in long time though and don't know if they still make them.

Other tougher 22 bullets are the 64gr Winchester Power Point (available as a factory load) 55gr sierra gamekings (I use the soft point but the HP is reputed to be tougher)the 60gr hornady and the 70gr speer semi spitzer.

Seeing as you're at 223 velocity I'd be temped to try one of these first - why not buy a box of factory WW 64gr and see how it does on a pig.

If your twist can handle it, the WW 64 grain PP would be my recommendation. In penetration tests, it comes within percentage points of equaling the 60 grain Partition, and the wound cavity is slightly larger than that of the Nosler. You can get these in bulk from Midwayusa.com

I haven't had much luck with accuracy with the Winchester bulk bullets in either 64 grain or other weights (but that doesn't mean that you won't). The regular old Hornady 60 grain Spire Point is a pretty good penetrator which you might want to try. BTW, a shot behind the shoulder with a .22 centerfire kills hogs about as well as anything else I've tried.

I've tried Ultramax factory reloaded partitions and they don't shoot worth a flip in any of my guns. I've tried reloading partitions with equally poor results. I've tried factory Federal Trophy Bonded Bear Claws and factory Winchester 64 grain Power Points with poor results also. I've got 223's with 1 in 9 twists and 1 in 12 twists. None were impressive with the above. I have however gotten fairly good results with handloading 70 grain round nose bullets. Haven't shot any game with them yet, but they are grouping less than 1" at 100yds (3shots).

ULtraman--If you are interested I have sitting on the shelf some 70 grain speer semi spitzer, 64 grain win power point, and some 50 grain barnes x bullets. If you are interested I could make you up a "test" package of about 15-20 ea and mail them to you. Being light little .22 cal they should mail pretty cheap.
