Bullet cabinet / shelf
Bullet cabinet / shelf
Did anyone build a cabinet or shelving to keep their heads :-)
I'm thinking about 6" deep and 2 ft wide. not sure how many shelves yet. The bulk packed stuff may not go on the shelves. Not sure if I'll do a plexi door either.
What ya got?

vapodogI was reluctant to put them in a cabinet that "hung" on a wall.....after a while it gets real darn heavy!!!
I built a "legged" model shelf that stands on the reloading bench.....it's 6" deep by 24" high by 36" long......you can sit a lot of bullets in this space....it has four shelves!

i went to a 8" deep 3' wide and 6' tall shelf made of metal.
the wood ones sag too much and worry me.
wood is fine for primers or brass but a whoe shelf full of lead requires metal.

fredj338All my bullets are on the ground floor cabinets. If I were building one, metal shelving from HD or Lowes would be easy & affordable & would hold a lot of wt. If you go wood, us nothing less than 2X6 or 2x8. A 1x is gonna deflect way too much even over 24".
LIFE IS NOT A SPECTATOR'S SPORT!
I built shelves 5' wide, same as my loading bench, that rests in the back edge of my bench. It is about 4' high and is uses 2x6s for the frame and 1x6s for the shelves with a vertical support that run up the center of the shelves to prevent sagging. So the maximum unsupported span is only about 2.5'. On these shelves I keep my bullets, primers, loading dies and a few other loading accessories. I have his this shelf setup for about 4 years now and no noticeable sagging.

You didn't say where the shelves would be located or how much room you have to accomodate them. But, if you are doing this in your garage, do what I do - get an old refigerator. The modern looking square shaped ones do not detract from the decor, can accomodate all your reloading supplies, keep everything cool in the summer and are cheap (free). Get one with a magnetic door closing feature and you can even store your powder and primers.
Whatever you decide to use, figure how big it has to be and then make it twice as big. Three times as big probably would not hurt.

Doc224/375Shelves to hold what ?. Heads of what ?.
Under all this mess ; I'm cleaning up the floor ! , so everything is getting piled on top of my shelves
The top shelf holds around 600-800 lb. , the lower shelf with all the crap on top of it , has nearly
6K rounds of loaded ammo in ammo boxes inside of cardboard boxes . .222 through .375 and a butt load
or cases of .17 .22 .380 .38 9mm 44 mag 45 acp . Maybe 500 lb. as there are other things on that shelf
as well . Small cleaning shelf is 24" X 36" hundred lb. of stuff up there but could easily hold 300 lb..
How do I know ? , I sat on that shelf and I'm 245 lb. 6'3" and all the cleaning supplies was on it to .
I purchased rolled counter tops with back splash 288 lineal ft. for $ 288.00 . I then bought a
sheet of 14 gauge steel , laser cut and punched 5/16 holes bent and made angle plates
( Shelf Brackets ) chemically removed mill scale etched the plates , cleaned and primed
with two component urethane primer . FYI same as used on Military equipment Tough doesn't describe it !.
Marked and Laser leveled where all my shop and garage shelving went , drilled and gunned in the
brackets with 5/16" X 3" lags . Cut all the shelves to length , then glassed the backside and ends
of every one of them . Results
A BUTT LOAD OF STORAGE SPACE !.
I also have cabinets and used some of that shelving material for sliding drawers .
FYI ; The tops are Chemsurf .

It’s just a kitchen cabinet I found on sale. It works, and the overflow is stored in a closet.

Doc224/375I deserved every bit of those jabs !.
In my only defense that's not my loading bench !, only loaded ammo and over flow stuff like
my media separator , several extra powder throws , targets , and a whole lot of Misc. stuff .
My cleaning supplies upper shelf is messy and I need to box those bags of patches , other wise
I can access everything just fine . Shotgun shells ? Empty boxes you are referring too are part of the
floor clean up . Please note none of you saw any Bullets , Powder , Primers or Brass lying about did you
or my 4 presses 2 scales 2 Swage's 27 dies all their own tool heads
I took inventory yesterday on brass ( New Only 16,275 pieces ) Maybe 4 times that in used and usable!.
Next weekend Bullets , I'll venture a rough guess without exaggeration maybe 175K -200K ?.
I know I have a minimum of 65K in 7mm alone from 100-180 grain target & hunting design both .
I won't say here how much powder I have as it's in a ground vault magazine !!!.
Now for my Lab you can eat off the floor literally , then I would have to sterilize it again !.
My shop is very messy and it's the second thing to be cleaned after my garage over flow area !.
What your not able to see because it's higher up and in boxes , garbage bags on other shelves
with about $30K worth of Carbon Kevlar Boron Ceramics Spectra Twaron fabrics , which is also
over flow from the shop !!. Now picture 7-9K Bdft of exotic hardwoods , almost every imaginable
wood and metal working tool available including Tig , Mig, Mill , tracing Lathe, hydraulic press 240 Ton
500 Watt Co2 Laser, cold saw , Sliding Table saw 24" planer chop saws , radial arm saws
12" jointer multi stacking tilting arbor direct drive auto feeding molding machine with
so many brand name profile cutters it's pathetic !.
I'm in the process of selling much of the stuff off , as I don't use but a fraction of any of that
stuff any more !. Now perhaps you'll understand why my Lab is SPOTLESS , because everything else is
a Raccoon's den !. Purpose was to show shelf and brackets and the weight they can support !.
So you see I have a BUTT LOAD of clean up to do !. So when do I shoot ? , Now you know why everything needs to be cleaned up !!!.

LOL Hot Core, I wished it was Hodgdon manual 26 but it’s only the old, out of date 25.

The fact that you could see an old Hodgdon manual in that piss poor picture is impressive.

That manual is right there with the new ones. And it’s not for sale.
Here's how I did mine. They are eight feet long 1X6 with a lot of spacers added for strength and to seperate calibers. Most pigeon holes are roughly eight inches wide.
