<ARvrmthunter>best powder for 338 Rem Ultra Mag
My dad just bought a 338 RUM, but I do all his reloading, Rem Sendero Stainless-fluted barrel. Does anyone have one of these animals? (his is magna-ported). what powders should I start with? Hogdon just came out with a "retumbo" looks ok for velocity, but accuracy? Hoping for a MOA shooter. Any ideas are appreciated in advance.

Ted S.Hi,had good luck with Reloader-25.Looks like it is best with heavy bullets. 250 grain plus. I shot some 250 grain Hawk bullets semi round nose with 80 grains of powder and got .411" groups.Got up to 90 grains and the groups were opening up to about 1 1/4". I think Reloader-22 may be great with lighter bullets.

<Guy>I have the same rifle/caliber and it's an excellent shooter. I would add H1000 and H870 to the list, though they work better with the heavier bullets, 250 grains and up.
I shot my rifle for the first time in awhile last weekend and with the 300 MKHP/Rel25 it produced a .280" 3 shot group @100 yds, for zero. I moved the target out to 225 yds and through a heavy mirage and gusty swirling winds, I shot 3 shot groups that went 1.10", 1.30", 1.90", 1.25" and 2.10". It was easily out-shooting my .223 in that wind. I'll bet your father will like his new toy and it shouldn't kick much being Mag-na-Ported.
Good luck

McCrayWith 250 grain bullets, try RE-25.
So far, IMR-7828 is the best with 200 grain bullets.
Reloader 22 ought to work with the 200-225 weights but I seem to be snake-bit with Re-22. I never seem to have much luck with it.
Good luck, Joe.

AJ300MAG92g of RL25 over the 250g Sierra Gamekings gives me a .250 3 shot group at 100 yards

, 3030FPS. 90g of RL25 over the CT Partition Golds "Moly Free" gives me .75 groups at 100yards, 2950FPS. Very consistant velocities, in a string of six shots, 3-4 will have the same velocity. Gun is a Krieger barreled Remington action.

ricciardelliGenerally I have found AA-3100 to be the best powder for all around use. Data is available on my pages.

CheahaVit.N-560 and H-4831SC are the 2 best powders in my rifle. They work great with bullet weights from 160grX up to 250gr A-Frame. Adjusting OAL makes a huge difference in accuracy with mine.Good luck

<Reloader66>Try IMR-7828 or REL-25 in your 338 Ultra Mag. Both powders are ideal for the large Ultra Mag case. REL-22 and IMR 4831, H-4831 should do well with the lighter weight bullets. Always begin with the starting load listed in your book or you may pass the accuracy load in that Magnum cartridge. Few hunting rifles produce their best groups with the maximum loads listed.

One think I wont do is to sell that rifle,a fine shooter will be able to get less than.500MOA.Concerning the price is was a good buy,is anyone else getting fine accuracy with the model BDL custom de luxe...

<JLBMI>Has anybody tried VV 165 or 565 in the Ultra Mag?
30 December 2002, 16:25
<Rust>I've had good luck using 3100, decent load densities, good velocity, good accuracy at about 92 grains behind a Nosler 200 BT (decent deer load) and the recoil isn't too bad.
