shilen3060 grain partition and the barnes would be my choice.

<eldeguello>Yes. There are several Barnes X types, the 60 grain Nosler Partition Jacket, and also the Winchester 64-grain bullet. All of these work well for shooting deer.

AAdamsOn the Barnes X bullet 60 grain what kind of fps should I be pushing for? Thanks

<eldeguello>I just looked in my new Barnes Reloading Manual (No. 3), and the heaviest X bullet they show in .224" is a 53 grainer. The top velocities for this weight are 3700 FPS range. I think you could get as high as 3500 or so from the Nosler 60 grain Partition bullet, but my Nosler manual is not at hand right now.

DekeNosler 5th Edition shows 3603fps w/60gr Partition/38.5grH380/Winchester case/Win WLR primer and also notes this as most accurate load. I loaded the H380 in 22-250 and also found it to produce the fastest and most accurate loads. Be careful though w/H380 in that hot South Carolina sun.
Deke.

<eldeguello>Deke, pretty impressive load!! I'll bet that 60 Partition at 3600+ fps will kill a deer!

muzzleblast525Last year I hunted with my Tika T3 22-250 and loaded 50g Nosler BT's over, I believe 34.5 Varget. Shot 1 buck and 1 doe with this setup, all about 110 yards. The doe went about 40 yards away from me after the shot and had complete pass through. The buck ran towards me about forty yards before falling over. Hit just a little ahead in the front right shoulder, recovered the base of the bullet on the offside. Both deer had maximum damage to internal organs, i.e. heart and lungs. Will probably be my backup gun this year, as I've just gotten a Browning A-Bolt II 25 WSSM....
