Can 17 cal. Remington cases be made from .223 brass?

Wolfer,

No you can't......that is, and end up with a case that is as long as a factory piece of 17 Rem. brass.........i.e. the neck-length will be 20 to 40 thousandths of an inch too short. Also, the neck-wall will be thicker, and the case capacity will be less.

A better hunk of brass, from which to form the 17 Rem. case, is the 222 Magnum case. I recently made some from a batch of Sako brass I'd been hording. Neck length could then be fitted to your particular chamber. But, the neck-wall will still be thicker(requiring neck-turning for some chambers), and case capacity a bit less.

Hope this helps....
