.223 Rem Primers

Abob.223 Rem Primers
Most manuals I found recommend a small rifle primer (CCI 400, Fed 205, WSR, Rem 6 ½)
Noslers website recommends magnum small rifle 7 ½
Anyone using mag primers for 223 rem hunting loads?

Larry GibsonI use "magnum" type primers in my .223 loads. I do this for consistancy of ignition with ball powders at sub freezing temeperatures (when the ammo is at subfreezing temperature). They work in that range and just as well at normal temperatures as standard primers. WSRs and CCIs are my main choice but the Feds work as well also. I wasn't under the impression that Remington 7 1/2s were "magnum" primers. As I recall they just have a thicker cup for use in gas guns. I do know they are harder cups as I get misfires in my Contender with them and don't with the other makes.

Sagebrush BurnsMy 223 load uses H335 and my rifle has a preference for magnum primers. Tried regular and benchrest primers as well, but accuracy was best with the magnum primers.

How does the H335 meter?

muckLarry Gibson is correct the Rem 7 1/2 primer is a thicker cup. Not a "mag" primer.

vapodogI have a Dillon 650 set up only for the .223 and has never been converted to anything else.....
I probably have fired 100,000 rounds of .223 through six .223 rifles I've owned......all of the loads (except for a few loaded with H-335) have been loaded with 27.5 grains BL-C(2) and (mostly) 50 grain TNT bullets.
I've used only the small rifle primer (mostly from CCI) in all this time and have never had a need or wish for anything else.......
