.357 for Deer

I have a 10" Thompson Contender in .357 and wa interested in trying it on deer with a 180 gr. Nosler Fail Safe bullet do you think it will perform? Iwant to use 13gr. of H4227 I think it would be 1280 fps. Thankyou, Bryan

I have use the 357 6" revolver on deer and have never been very pleased, but you may get over that hump with your heavy bullet and increased velocity. Maybe.

I belive pistol rounds for hunting start with the 41 Mag and go up from there.

I am really glad to see this topic, hope it generates some replys. I am building a .357MAX on a Martini-Cadet. In the current Speer manual, they list a load for the Max using their 180gr bullet designed for the .35 Rem. You might check out the data for that, and see what might be worked in the Mag. I wonder if you can generate enough velocity in the Mag to make the Failsafe perform properly?
