muzzleOkay I need help with this one.
One of my juniors was with me at the range Saturday when he handed me an empty case that he had picked up. The case was a 338 win mag case that was about 1 1/2 inches long, had been ruptured, had a fired primer in it and (here it comes) was rifled down it's entire outside. It had been fired through a rifled barrel. I'm at a loss as to what could have happened. I'd be glad to send it to someone here so that they can post pictures of it. I've seen a few weird things from the range but this one takes the cake.

vapodogI'm guessing you have found a bullet jacket that was made from a 338 mag case.
Yes...folks do this!!!! They actually will take brass from cases such as the 338 mag you found and make bullets from it!!!!!

GSP7Was it filled with lead? Was the belt still thar with riflin on et? What caliber would a 338 case be as a bullet?
A .525bubba?

muzzleIt had no lead in it when it was found and the belt was gone. The bottom of the case was intact with a fired primer in it. It may have had the belt turned off.

vanAre you sure it wasn,t a 308 case, that some of the writing gone on the case base and you saw rifiling on it. That rifleing on a case is exactly what a 308 win case looks like when it is fired from a H&K gun chambered for a 308. There chambers are cut different that any other type chamber. I bet it was one of those!! van

muzzleThe rifling did have a twist and it was for sure a 338 win case as it was quite legible.
