need 6.5-.284 info
My gun is almost complete.I'm useing Redding compation dies, should I run the new brass thru neck die, or body die, for the first loading.Any powder recomendations, for 95 grain V-MAX, and 142SMK? thanks for any info. [Cool]

I use 51grns of H4831 behind the 142MK, about 1 grain more than the Hodgon max load, but I didn't detect any pressure signs and I get damn near 3000fps out of my 28in tube. I tried 48grns of Varget under a 100grn Hornady SP, for a MV of 3500, so I would suggest about 49grns for the 95.

The 6.5/284 is most at home with the 142 Sierra, I assume your twist rate is 1 in 9 or faster. Mne is a 28" 1 in 9 and loves the IMR 4831 at just about 3000 ft/sec also. But your question is about using the dies on virgin brass. If your chamber accepts the cases as they are, then I would be inclined to only make sure that the necks are in the round first with the neck die. I use the Redding bushing dies and use about 2 1/2 thousandths of tension, and about .005 jump. I would think that while the lighter bullets such as the 120 Match King would be faster, the very light for caliber sch as the 95 would be better suited for the .260Rem. If you are going to use this rifle at short ranges (under 500) then perhaps the lighter pills will heal the need. this is one awesome cartridge in the field. I'll never be without at least one! And i love my .308's!
