Newbie here. Right now I'm loading .32 S&W Long and .32 HR mag. for Ruger revolver. I've loaded and shot Hornady SWC in both the Long and Magnum. I bought some Berry's double ended plated wadcutters for indoor range shooting, and they state to not load plated bullets with magnum loads. My question: Why can you load lead SWC in magnum and not plated lead wadcutter? Thanks for furthering my education!!

In my experience (9mm+.357 Sig) the plated bullets do not do well when pushed much above 1200 fps. Properly cast and lubed SWC's seem do do very well to over 1400 fps. I expect it has to do with the lube, or lack of.

If you use gas checks you can push cast bullets to magnum velocities. To do this I think you would have to cast your own.
The gas checks are much thicker than plating and thus offer more protection of the bullet at the increased heat/pressure of magnum loads.

You can use them in your 32H&R mag just don’t push them over 1100 fps.
