PeterTumbler media (again)
OK I used to use some stuff that I got at the pet store but can't remember what I asked for. Is it Lizard bedding or what.

SR4759I wash my cases in hot soapy water, rinse in hot water, let them drain, then rinse in 90% IPA and fan dry. I keep them clean after that.
So I guess you could say I quit screwing around with tumbling my brass and never looked back.

Actually it needs to say 90% or 99% IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol) so don't try to sip it on the sly.

RustyI'm with SR4759.
I quit messing with tumbling and now use my Harbor Freight Ultra Sonic Cleaner.
Hot tap water a teaspoon of Lemi Shine and one drop of dish soap. 3 cycles of longest time setting and everything is clean, inside, outside, primer pockets. Rinse the cases and dry in a convection oven at lowest setting.
What's neat is you throw away the cleaning solution, every time! And you don't have to wipe your cleaning media off the cases!
So quick, so clean, so easy! What's not to like.

mossyThe stuff I use is called Zilla. As stated above, ground English Walnut shells. Very fine ground, really sticks to the casings when it gets damp in my garage though.

Yeah, dishwashing detergent and a shot of vinegar. I put the brass in the ammo racks that come in pistol ammo boxes (45 ACP). I use a decap tool and remove primers first so the pocket gets washed up. I've actually sat kitchen wash tubs full of brass (stacked in holders) on the washing machine while doing a load or two -- perfect source of vibration/agitation.
I have forced air heat at home and so set the ammo blocks in front of the vent to dry.

http://www.varmintal.com/arelo.htm argues that tumbled brass gets nicked up on the neck and also the banging "work hardens" the neck. All this compromises optimal bullet release.
I fire form my rifle ammo, and don't care much if the brass is shiny, just so long as it's clean.
