<Jrgen>Wrong powder ???
In spring we had a discussion about my pressure problems in my 308 Win. , ultra heavy bolt lift and fired cases that won`t go back into the chamber!
I reduced my loads to ridiculous low levels (a load I`ve been shooting for years now!)still very high pressures. After trying a new can of the same powder , everthing is back to where it used to be , my only conclusion is : they filled the can with the wrong stuff at the factory or they labeled it wrong !
Has anybody experienced something like this ? What did you do ? If used in a weaker action than my Mauser , what could have happened then ?
Any advice from you ???Thanks Jrgen

StonecreekWhat you have experienced is not all that uncommon (unfortunately) with the double-base powders produced by Bofors and marketed as Norma or Alliant. Was one of these involved?

Lar45I haven't had that happen. I would send it back and ask for a new can of powder. I had some Winchester 454 ammo that kept splitting cases, so I sent it back and they sent me $80 in Winchester bucks.
I shot some cheap factory loads in my Mauser 30-06 a little while back and on one round the primer fell out when I extracted the case!!!

I'm going to pull the bullets and just reuse the brass. I'm glad it was in a M-98.

<Jrgen>The powder in my case (no pun intended) was finnish N140 , maybe this is the same stuff as the Bofors , who knows ????
I will contact Vithavouri about this incident , maybe they made a whole series of wrong cans , you never know .......?But with all this pressure my rifle shot still less than 1/2" at 100 meters, that amazed me the most ! Thanks for your input guys , Jrgen

<eldeguello>It would be interesting to know what your velocities were with those loads!

waitaminitDo you have the chance to compare the "Hot" powder with a "real" N140 (of a friend) ?
Same kind (extruded), same size, color, smell, weight ?

<Jrgen>I did use my friend`s powder can and started low(40gr. with a 169gr. bullet ) and it shoots like before , almost one hole groups and absolutely no pressure signs. I visually checked it and it looks and smells the same , although it`s kinda weird, these finnish powders all look very much alike !!!!!
I think it`s mainly the coating that gives the burning rates ??!!
