Hey guys,

Is there a difference between imr4831 and h4831 or is the data interchangeable. I have been shooting h4831sc, but I found imr4831 kegs on sale. Are they the same?

They are not the same. Similar characteristics but slightly different burn rates. Some folks like one and some the other. I started with the IMR powder and have been happy with it.

The Hodgdon powder is quite a bit slower than IMR. Using Hodgdon load data for IMR is DANGEROUS.

It's not like 4350 data.

i to have shot both. and no they are not interchangeable.. the IMR is faster burn..

i find IMR 4831 is about half way between 4350 and H4831

I've had excellent results in my 7MM Mag with IMR 4831. I understand a lot of people prefer H4831 but haven't tried it. IMR has given me 3/4 in groups in my rifle and that's good enough for me.

Hodgdon seems to be slower, and I have "always" used the Hodgdon version. My only complaint about the H4831 was the problems caused by the logs in my powder measure, but Hodgdon fixed that with their new "shortcut" or sc version, H4831sc, which I will highly recommend to anyone who uses H4831. Good powder!

I concur with butchloc. I've used all 3 since imr 4831 first came out.

All three will do the job. The metering characteristic of the short cut is a loading plus but having gotten use to the logs in the powder dispenser it's only a small plus to me. I resently picked up 15# of H 4831 for $65.00 and figured I'd just live with the handicap till it's gone. roger
