DWrightLoads for a new .338-06 AI ?
Looking for a place to start with my Sako .338-06 AI. It's been a 7 year project that is finally coming to an end. Anyone have a good load with 250 grain bullets? Or? Thanks in advance.

zeeriverrat1DWright..When I worked up loads for my 338-06AI's, I just started with the standard 338-06 data in the Nosler manual and worked my way up... I load 250s in my whelen, so I have stuck with lighter bullets in my 338-06AI.
Have had good luck with both the 180gr accubond & H4895 and the 210gr Nosler and IMR4350... You will have fun with your new toy!!

ramrod340My 340PDK is several grs larger than the 338-06AI. But like Z I prefer the lighter bullets in mine. I always treated the 225 as my heavy bullet and normally used the 210PT. I have since switched to the 200Accubond.

taylorce1I shoot the standard 338-06 and have been using 200 grain Hornady SP bullets. Look at RL-15 as a good powder choice it is the one I've settled on in my rifle. I'd start with .338-06 data and work up from there, or if you know someone who can run quick load for you.

fredj338I shoot a std. 338-06, using data from there as a starting point should work fine in your AI. Under the 250gr bullets, doesn't get much better than RL19 or H4350. I prefer H4350.

Ackley Improved UserPM me if interested - I have abundant data if you want it. My best load to date is 63 grs. of N204 with the 225 Accubond. This load with a 26" barrel is running ~2850 fps, but this is max and you should work up to it from below. Also, search this site for discussions of reloading the .338-06 AI - recent threads have been very interesting. Regards, AIU
