Ounces to Grains?
Can somebody tell me what the equivelent weight in grains would be for a 1 ounce shotgun slug? I've got a couple of boxes of Winchester rifled slugs in 12 ga that say they're 1600 fps, and I was wondering how much energy in ft-lbs this would equate to? Thanks for any help.

Ol` Joe
437.5 gr = 1 oz

There are 7000 grains in a pound, and 16 ounces in a pound, so 1 ounce = 437.5 grains.

Thanks guys!! I knew it wouldn't take long to get an answer!! Now, if I did my math right, a 435.7 grain slug at 1600 fps produces 2486 ft-lbs at the muzzle, right??

I would not count on that 1600 fps being right. I have chronographed one slug load and it was closer to 1400 fps and the Brenneke's are way slower than that!

Yep, your energy calcs are correct for the data given.
