257 Cast bullet loads
I posted this question on the cast bullet forum and got no response. Can anyone help?

I have a 250 Savage 15" Encore pistol and a 22" barrel bolt rifle in 25/06.
I just purchased some 120 gr. cast bullets and I'm looking for load data for both.
I have the following powders SR4759, IMR4227, 2400, Unique, and A1680.
Thanks
Greg

Of the powders you mentioned, here is all my Lyman cast bullet books show.

117gr bullet
Unique - 8.5 grs = 1,400 fps
Unique - 12.5grs = 1,785 fps

And for a cast 100 grain bullet I have found
2400 - 12.0grs = 1,530 fps
2400 - 15.0grs = 1,860 fps
4227 - 13.0grs = 1,560 fps
4227 - 16.0grs = 1,870 fps

Note the data for 2400 and 4227 are for a 100 gr. bullet and would thus need to be reduced slightly for 120gr bullet.

This isn't much data for you to play with but should start you down the road. Probably you will get poorest results from 4227 and best from 2400. Just my SWAG.

Good luck. By the by, do you have a bullet number of the exact bullet you are using here?

Thanks for your help guys. Pecos, I purchased the bullets, but I think it is from an RCBS mould.

Greg and all,

Where did you buy the 257 caliber cast bullets? And how much did you pay for them? I have been interested in shooting cast as a plinking/practice round in my 25-06. Thanks for your help. ... Oscar
