hoehneSpeer bullets for 8mm Mag.
Haven't seen much talk about Speer bullets on this site. Alliant Powder lists some interesting velocities with the Speer 200 gr. for 8 Magnum. Any thoughts or experience from any of you folks?

Terry BlauwkampYep... 200 gr Speer Hot cores are a bit soft, but great for Deer & Elk etc.
For 200 + yards, they would be just fine.
Nosler makes a 200 gr Partiton, that is great, along with Hornadys 220 gr Spire Point.

<Youper>Speer says that their 200gr. .323" bullet was designed for the velocities of the 8mm Rem. Mag. When fired out of the 8x57 JS and 8mm-'06 it should only be used on game in at maximum velocities and at close range.

<eldeguello>I have used both the Speer 200's and Nosler Partiton 200 grain's in an 8X60RS double rifle, at 2600 feet per second. Both work OK, but the Noslers are far more likely to place both barrels close together @ 100 meters, even though powder charges are the same. I use the Speers for plinking and short-range target practice, the Noslers for hunting.

snowmanI have agree with Terry on this one.Max loads from an 8mm Rem or an 8x68 will make the 200 gr Speer open up pretty fast. Best use them for 200 +yd shots. They do work just fine on full throttle 8x57 and 8mm -06 loads. If you insist on 200 gr bullets in a 8 mm mag go to the Partion, Barnes X or the Swift a-frame.

dan belisleI've tried the 200 gr Speer in my 8 Mag and they work good on deer/caribou sized game. For bigger animals you really need a tougher bullet. - Dan
