nubeWhich gun to buy now?
I want to buy a long distance coyote gun and would like to shoot coyotes up to 600 yards. What calibre would you guys sugest fro a light weight bullet combo. I was thiking the 257 weatherby and a 87gr bullet. I was thinking of shooting a barnes tsx and I imagine they only make a 100 gr bullet. I have a 22-250 now but it just doesn't seem to shoot as flat as I would have liked it to at 600 yards.
What do you think?
Thanks

vapodogIf I was building a 600 yard coyote gun the choice would fall to either the 25-06 or the 6.5-06
I'd build it on a push feed M-70 with a shilen #5 contour 26" barrel (CM)
If one don't like the cost of a custom he can just go to savage and buy one that will surprise the hell out of you for accuracy.....sorry...not sure what calibers they offer but rebarreling isn't hard at all.

fredj338I think you would be just as well off w/ a 25-06 or a 6.5x284. Your barrel will certainly last longer than using a .257bee. Even a .243 will get it done out to 600yds w/ less recoil & good bbl. life.

molar1+1 for the 25-06. A close 2nd would be the 6mm rem.

DocTry a 22-6mm. It's hell on yotes at distances beyond 600 yards.
Or a .277 Titus with 90 or 100 grain bullets.

pointblankYou will need a moa or better rifle for shooting yotes at 600 which IMO means custom. My first choice of caliber would be 6mmAI because of the sheer # of quality bullets in 6mm.

nubeI have a Blaser 93 and hope to buy a barrell toput on it. I shoot a 7mm stw right now and can hit them with that but it gets a little $ for the reloads and I go through a lot of shells. I see an average of 20-30 coyotes a da in the wide open quarter sections of land and they are usually at 400 plus yards. I hope to shoot a Tsx for less pelt damage. I have a 300 win mag I might try to load some solids and 100 gr pills for but I think it is still too big. I don't know much about the smaller calibres. Never use them much up here
