Resizing belted magnums...
Dumb question, I have never reloaded belted magnums before, but recently bought a 338 Win Mag. I plan on reloading for it eventually. I have read that resizing techniques are different just not sure what they mean.

For non-belted cases, I always bottomed my die down against the shellholder so that when I pull the handle down it pops slightly. Any input of books you can recommend? Thanks!

To learn more about different resizing techniques do a search on this forum for
"partial full length resizing". New brass in a belted magnum headspaces on the belt. To extend
case life, brass can be reloaded to headspace on
the shoulder.

The Speer Manual #13 has about a page of information on "Resizing for maximum accuracy and case life" and "Sizing Belted Cases".

You load all caliber pretty much the same, belted or not belted...Using the die direction will always work as it over works the brass and brings cases back to factory specs supposedly....

Problem: All chambers are cut to different degrees of specs, same with dies...so they seldom have the tolerances of say a custom set of dies made to your particular chamber...

therefore, you should resize your brass with any caliber a tiny bit at a time as you try it in the chamber of the gun and when you reach the point that the action closes on the case with a slight crush fit, your there, that is the place to set your reloading die for your gun..If its a hunting rifle I will then set it back just a little more to get less than a crush fit, as reliability is more important than accuracy in a hunting rifle. You will then have a properl set die and your brass will last much longer as it will be worked less...

Do this with any caliber except with custom chambers that work with custom dies...
