BlueDot isn't quite slow enough for me w/ a 300gr bullet. I have tried H4227, but prefer H110 or W296. Work up to 20.5gr of H4227. The IMR4227 is a tiny bit faster so approach 20gr w/ caution.

4227 is extremely heat sensitive in the .44. If you get the gun hot the pressues will climb and velocity will increase a great deal. The hotter the gun gets, the lower you will hit. Primers will flatten very quickly.
Use 20.5 gr's of 296 and the Fed 150 primer. I would not waste 300 gr bullets with Blue Dot. They are too expensive for plinker loads. Yes you can get a high velocity but at what pressure. It is just too fast.
If you insist on 4227, keep the gun cold and shoot slow. Don't use a magnum primer. The stuff works great in the .357, .357 max and a lot of other cases but it is a loser in the .44 and .45. Yeah, a lot of guys use it but stick them on a silhouette course and see how good they do and how fast they dump the powder. That is once they realize that it is not their shooting that is bad but what the powder is doing to their shooting.

If you can`t find WW 296 in your area H110 is the same powder just packaged by Hodgdon. They are different by lot variation.

Data for some bullets is here
