Powder availability in central Georgia
I have made stops at 2 local stores in the last 2 days and have come away stunned. Both places had a pretty good selection of rifle powders available and, while not at pre panic prices, they were reasonably priced ($29-34 per pound, $175-190 per 8 lb keg). There was a good selection of IMR powders, fair selection of Hodgdon powder and some Alliant (no RL19 or RL22). One store had kegs of Red Dot, Green Dot and some Promo. Kinda gave me hope maybe some of the panic is winding down. I picked up some IMR 4451, IMR 7828SSC, H414, and of all things, Varget! I also found some 270 cal 140 gr Nosler Partitions. I stocked up on some of my rifle powders and NO HAZMAT charges dancing. I felt like Christmas came in March.

In the last several years I've purchased all my powder at gun shows.....and $21/ pound is the most I've paid for any of it.

When I find it in retail stores it's running right at $30 plus tax.....I let them keep it.

Yes all the hoarders now have several lifetime supplies of powder and primers so it is becoming easier to get here too. Contrary to popular belief, there was never any shortage based on historic demands. (I do know people who have hoarded powder in the past 2 years, that they will never burn.) I tell them that I can't wait for their estate sale during which I will give their wives two dollars a pound for it.
