I need a start load for 6.5x47 using 108gr Scenars preferably with Varget. Anyone have a good starting point?

This site might get you started.

Not too many out there from what I can see are shooting 108gr out of a 6.5x47L

Dennis,

Keep looking. Here is what I found on various forums.

120 gr = 38 gr max of Varget
42 gr max of Rel 17

123 gr = 38.5 gr max of Varget
= 38.6 gr max of Rel 15
= 41.8 gr max of H4350
= 39 gr max of N540
= 33 gr start for IMR 8208

130 gr = 38 gr max of Rel 15
=43.2 gr max of H4350
= 38 gr max of Varget

139 gr = 38.5 gr max of Varget
= 37 gr max of Rel 15
= 41.5 gr max of Rel 17
= 43 gr max of Hunter

140 gr = 39 gr max of Rel l5
= 42 gr max of H4350
= 41.5 gr max of Rel 17

Now, that is what my research has come up with from checking out various web sites just like this one and seeing what people have used. The variable is their barrels, twist rate, seating depth and especially chamber throat specs. I've seen chamber specs as short as .093". Mine is .104". The two on 6mmbrHot.com are .125" and .140"; long!

Make sure what ever you do, drop down at least 10% from the above listed charges and work up slowly to find YOUR guns max and back off at least 1/2 gr; maybe even 1 gr.

Good luck! Great caliber you've got there.

On Saturday, I ran 10 different combinations of 5 bullets and two powders in 300 yd pressure/ ladders.

It was a great day!

Alan
