Winchester announced it last year and disappointed a lot of people who were hoping the 25 would be built on the WSM case instead of the smaller WSSM. My guess is that they thought it was way overbored for the average weight 257 bullets not considering that a lot of reloaders would load long heavy bullets in it for long range work.

People have been emailing Remington about coming out with a 25 SAUM which wuld be alot hotter than the 25WSSM and not quite as overbore as a 25 WSM.

a built a 257xwsm jls....

turned out to be just a hair behind the top load loads of the 257 wby....

on the wssm case, its like 56.50 gr of water
my 257 roberts (not AI) is 59.30,
the 257 jamison (more or less a 257wsm) is 81 gr
the 257 wby is 85 gr

loaded to the SAME pressure (assumes 57500 and a 115 gr N PT, 25" barrel)
25 wssm 3100
257 jamison (wsm) 3298
257 roberts 3081
257 wby 3298

the reason the wsm and wby are the same velocity is unburned powders... I realize these can be loaded up/down from 57500, but it's a "fair" benchmark to measure them all at.
