I've got a Vergueiro with an '09 Argy barrel in 7.65x53 and I use any .312's I can get.....303, 7.62x54r, even some of the little 139's from the 7.62x39.

The 150 gr .312 " diam Hornady bullet is accurate and very effective on deer sized game

I shoot my 1909 Argy out to 800 yards on a regular basis.
Using 180 .312 grain SPBT bullets and Reloader-15 I get very good accuracy at 200-1,000 yards.
.315 did not shoot well at all.
.311 were OK for plinking but not as good as the .312's were at any distance. If your a 50-100 yard close range shooter, the .308's of 150 plus grains will shoot 5 MOA if you do your part.

I used to shoot 7.62 Nato ammo out of an 09, on the MG ranges; we had ammo to spare. Cases end up with a very short neck.
Accuracy? Not terrible; minute of a squad formation at 600 yards. Tracers were fun too.
I know you asked about bullets; Interarms used to chamber them for 30-06; (the ones that set back the receivers); they would hit a deer any day.

Thanks for the replies. I'll go with the .312.

Hornady also makes a .312 174 gr Round Nose SP, that works just great on Deer.
