Elk CountryRe: 300 win mag...in a short barrel?
Can you say MUZZLE FLASH!!!
ALot may depend on the weight of the bullet.
For 150's, I think I'd try IMR 4064 first, but that's just what I have on the shelf. Maybe RL15 or 19 next.
For 180's, I'd go with the medium slow burners like H4350 or IMR4350.
Just my thoughts, hope they help. I used to own a 300WM but it had a 24" tube. I'm not sure what to expect from such a short barrel.

well.....just in case ya wanna know

that barrel should give 30-06 rifle performance from a handgun. i'll agree it may not be the ultimate in efficiency, but WILL perform in a handgun barrel of 16.5".
should get 2700fps plus with 165gr nosler bt's. thats hefty deer medicine..........not a useless piece of barrel.

i reckon i shoulda told ya that it was gonna be used on an encore handgun..........and ain't nothin illegal about it.

Matt_EYa, what's all this complaining about barrel length? Savage has their striker in a 300WSM config that I wouldn't mind having....

vinesWell, all your going to get from a 300 with 16.5 in. is alot of unburned powder, and alot of muzzle flash. and low volocity your better off with a 30-06 in 16.5.but!! IF U need this combo. better stay with med. to slow burn powder. say RL-15 4064, 4895, 380, maybe 4350?

Matt_ESavage does it somehow...surely they wouldn't bother putting a 300WSM pistol on the market, if it was all gimicks.
