The burning rate is too fast I believe. ( I think, but I'll write it and then if I am wrong someone can chime up and correct me)

This creates a different pressure curve and can bend the operating rod.

Mil. Case full re-size (once fired in this gun)
Seated to the cannelure (which is .075 off the lands)

AR manuel #2 list 150 NBT with 47.2 to 52.5 of XMR 4064 in an IMI case with a CCI 200

Hoping for < 4" at 100 yds. Open sights.

The Hornady manual has M1-specific loads.

Tried today. Got 2-1/2 to 3 inch groups at 100yds off a bench. About as well as I can shoot with open sites and the standard trigger. This is a CMP gun with no other work done to it.

Shoots to almost the same POA as the Korean surplus 150 ammo I have.

That's not too bad. I think you could perhaps tighten up the group a little by trying powder charge changes in 0.5 grain increments both up and down from that 48-grain level, BUT you are close to the top for 4064 at 48 grains - you might be able to go as high as 49.5 or maybe even 50 with 150-grain bullets. But do it in steps. A slight reduction from 48 grains could likewise improve grouping.



I once had an M1 that we gave the National Match treatment to, per the NRA M1 Garand book. It would shoot my match load of 47 grains of IMR 4064 and the 168-grain Sierra into 1 inch for an eight-round clip. BUT it always tossed ONE ROUND out of the group by another inch or inch and a half!! I never was able to get the damn thing to stop doing that!! Overall, it was good enough for me for competiton, because it pretty much shot as good as I could!

Had a great hunt. Shot a large whitetail doe at 70 yds from a ladder stand with no rest. CMP issue M1 with the load listed above. In the front of one shoulder, out just behind the other shoulder. She went maybe 20 yds. Bullet performed well. Got lucky - if she had come by 5 minutes later it would have been to late to see the front sight.
