Looking for the lightest load possible that will cycle my AR pistol.

Only you can learn that on your platform. Start with the fastest powder and work down from the starting loads. Why fast powder? It has the lowest port pressure, usually. Steep pressure curve you know.
OTOH, every loading manual will say not to go below the starting loads.

Why is that? The Lee Manual teaches that it is usually safe to down with the faster powders.

Why is that? because if you get a half full case of certain burning rate powders and the moons are aligned properly it will cause SEE, and blow up your rifle. Or stick a bullet in the barrel, both of which is bad for business.
And they don't want to risk it, even though AFAIK no one can duplicate it. But it has happened with slower powders.
