1 inch reloading dies -- which press?
Hi there,

I'd like to pick up a single stage press suitable for 1 inch dies. This is going to be very low volume, so I'm not looking to spend a ton of money. Which press should I buy?

Thanks

Where do you find 1-inch dies?

CH4D has 7/8th and 1 inch reloading dies for the .500 A2. I was told over the phone that the 1 inch dies were the recommended size, due to greater durability. They make 7/8th to 1 inch adapters for presses with removable threading; the price is very reasonable.

I just wanted to see who was doing something similar and what press they had chosen. I've already got 2 other presses including a Redding Turret (which I really like), so this will not be my general purpose press.

Many (if not most) of the single stage presses, have the actual press frame drilled and tapped for 1.5" dies (50 BMG size), then use a reducing bushing to get down to the standard 7/8x14 thread. You need to contact the press manufacturer and buy a different bushing to reduce down to the 1" thread size.
If you don't want to spend a lot of money, the Lee Classic Cast press is probably the cheapest/best option.

Redding Big Boss will do it. What are your other two presses? Rockchucker can be adapted for 1". Both Redding and RCBS have the bushings to adapt 1 1/4" to 1".

I have the Redding T7 and the Boss single stage. The Boss is a little small, but I might call Redding in the morning about the adapter bushing.

The Redding Big Boss comes with a bushing to use 7/8" dies, but I think the Boss does not (frame is drilled/tapped for 7/8), nor does the turret.

The Lee classic cast will do it with an adapter bushing (from ch4d?). Probably the least expensive option, and a good press too.

I have a RCBS AmmoMAster, it will handle 1" dies.

I just ordered a Lee Classic Cast. I know there are other, nicer presses, but I mostly use my Redding T7 (love it), and occasionally my Redding Boss for decapping or crimping. The Boss is fairly small and doesn't have a die bushing; it's directly drilled and 7/8 inch threaded so I was out of luck as far as using it with 1 inch dies.

If I load 300 rounds per year on this press, I'll be surprised. Still, at $8 per round for factory ammo I'm well, well ahead on the deal.

The Lee Classic Cast press uses 7/8"-14 and 1 1/4"-12 dies. I have one and extremely pleased with it. Between the Lee and Bonanza Co-axial press, I can handle all my centerfire needs.

I also use the RCBS Ammomaster. Good solid press, built like a tank.

With the right bushing from ch4d, LCC will also handle 1" dies. I agree, between it an a co-ax, a reloader is well covered.
