John S and a few others have mentioned they don't like the belted case of the 416 Rigby, IIRC. Someone has, anyway.

What's wrong with a belted case? Does it get
in the way when you try sizing the cases?

What other problems might you have with a belted case.

I have NO knowledge of any kind, having never used such a case.

The 416 Rigby case does not have a belt. Originally, I believe, the belt was designed for proper headspacing with long tapered cartridges, such as the 300 and 375 H & H. Because the belt was used for the headspacing, some rifle chambers reportedly were a bit sloppy. Once you fired the brass, and reset your dies properly, the point became moot. However, the belt does take up extra space in the magazine, and can cause feeding problems when rechambering a rifle from a non-belted original. Personally, I haven't thought of it as a real problem (although I would prefer to make efficient use of the magazine space available), but everyone rides his pony his way. Long as you don't fall off, it works. Just my opinion. - Dan

I shoot them all the short belted 338 Win, the wonderfull 375 H&H, the great non belted 404 Jefferys, the simi new 416 Rem belted, the 9.3x62 and 9.3x64 neither of which are belted, such common garden varities as the o6, 300 H&H, 7x57, 8x57, adorn my cabinet....AND it makes not one bit of difference either way, not even a little bit!!!

Today belt bashing is nothing more than political correctness in the world of gundom, such nonsence is to be scorned by the knowledgable and intelligent...all hype to sell new cartridges..BS compounded to its ultimate by ignorance and snobish cult like individuals, deciples of the evil one no doubt....

The additional space you will gain in the magazine by removing the belts is not going to be large enough to create enough space for an additional round. To fit another round in the magazine one would have to enlarge the magazine. You can file the belts away, and I bet you won't be able to fit an additional round in the magazine.

Now, if I was a gun writer trying to sell beltless cartridges, of course I would introduce some kind of rumor to discourage new and gullible gun buyers from buying belted cartridges.

I have both (belted and beltless cartridges) and like them just the same. I feel the same way about controlled-feed bolts versus push feed. It is a matter of preference, since both work well. I just prefer CRF bolts.
