old4x4Explain these groups
Just got back from the range and had 2 guns do similar things. Here's the scenario: 3 shot groups, Marlin 1895 450M and Ruger #1 45-70 (SOUPED UP!!). 2 groups with each gun @ 50yds were 2 shots almost in the same hole and 1 flyer 1 to 1 1/4 " away. In the Ruger, the flyer would be straight above or below. In the Marlin, usually across. Is this me or the gun/load? The recoil of the Ruger is horrendous and the scope is not moving (400 gr A-Frame at 2210 fps) and the flyer is not necessarily the 1st or last shot.

That sounds Exactly like me on a flinch day!
I go home and come back tomorrow. It is amazing all of my rifles have healed up over night, they all shoot perfect the next day!
Good luck!!

old4x4Yeah...flinchitis sounds about right. The forst round from the Marlin konked me across the bridge of the nose....no too bad, but it prob messed me all up. The other thing was the rear sling swivel on both guns seemed to be fouled up on my rear sandbag. I took them off just now and I'll go back tomorrow. My girlfriend loves the bruises on my shoulder....she thinks I'm nuts. She's probably right

<Slamfire>It is possible that the barrels were both straightened and need to be stress relieved.
Manufacturers straighten more barrels than they let on.
