Horn-Harvesterpet loads for the 223
Been working on 223 loads and would like to hear from some of you on your most accurate ones. Bullet weight, powder, primer and O.A.L. I've been using W748 and would like to try some AA2230, any comments? Thanks, H.H.

<thomas purdom>You might want to say which rifle you have, because that can, and does, make a heck of a difference. The black rifles have the 1x7 to 1x9 twist barrels and shoot the much heavier .225 bullets than say a CZ 527 witha 1x12 twist barrel. I'd give you my loads, but I too, am still in the experimental stage and the rifle I mentioned, the CZ 527, is what I shoot. Am using 50 grain bullets, Win 748, B2C, and H335 powder. I have some Varget in the powder box as well as some others that could be used. Am primarily awaiting nice, warm weather to get out.

<green 788>Use 26.6 grains of W748 in front of a decent 55 grain bullet. Seat the bullet a caliber's depth (.22") into the case.
If this doesn't shoot sub MOA from your rifle I'll be totally shocked!
No kidding, that'll do the trick. I'm certain of it.
If you want to use 40 grain bullets, go with 28.0 grains of W748, and again, seat the bullet a caliber's depth into the case.
For the 50 grain bullets, go with 27.2 grains of W748 and the caliber's depth seating.
Any of these recipes will shoot MOA or better in a decently constructed rifle. Don't roll your eyes

! Try them and you'll see that I'm right.

redialHH,
My two Savages (1-9" heavies) shoot almost any reasonable combination of 50 - 60 grain bullets, 3031, 4895, H335 powder into a half to three-quarters minute of angle. Matchkings, V-Max's, ordinary Hornady softpoints, CoreLokt Remingtons, it doesn't seem to matter. Don't push them too hard and they'll bunch together every damn time.
They're probably the least finicky rifles I've owned.
Cheers

BECoole27gr Varget and a bullet from 50-55grs loaded to 2.25". Mild & Shoots great!
1/9 - You could shoot 69s and even 75s with that. For 68 & 69gr bullets, cut the Varget to 26grs. Same length as above.

knightkrawler0050 grain VMAX, 27 grains of BL(C)-2, CCI 400, Remington casing, seated to just fit in the magazine of my AR15. This load has shot very well in every AR that I have tried it in, most were 1 in 9 twist. Be careful and work up to it, it is .3 grains over max according to Hornady, though I have never seen any pressure signs in over 1000 rounds.

rogerinnebHH,
I just tried some 75gr. A Max's with H335, seated wayyyyy out almost touching the lands. Showing .5 MOA potential! I think the fun of having a 1-9 twist is experimenting with the heavier bullets!

HollywoodI've had good luck with 2230 in the following:
24.0g, remington brass/primer seated to 2.235 COL.
I shoot a 700VS.
Can anyone who shoots a 700VS pass along their pet load.
Thanks

Dog-dusterI like 27 gr. 748 behind 40gr V-max cci mag sr and
26.5 gr H335 with 50 gr Blitzkings with WSR primers.
Be careful with the Blitzking load. Flattens out primers a bit. I shoot both in my savage 1-9" heavy -sub-moa all day long.
